Let's Talk About Drug Prices.
A plan proposed by Democrats in a House committee with the purpose of lowering the cost of prescription drugs, one part of their $3.5 trillion policy proposal, failed on September 14th, 2021. After three moderate Democrats and every Republican in that House committee refused their support, along with the pharmaceutical industry. Does the failure of this drug prices plan indicate more serious challenges around drug prices and healthcare costs? Looking at the discourse surrounding the issue on Twitter from prominent House members and political groups, I would say yes. The reason this points to larger problems for passing legislation can be seen all over Twitter, beginning with the words of the former Secretary of Labor, Robert Reich: " Always follow the money ."
