 #FReadom is trending on Twitter, thanks to Republican, Texas Representative, Matt Krause. Krause is has requested Texas schools to report whether they have any of the near-850 books from this list. The list is compiled of book pertaining of topics relating to U.S. history, abortion, sexuality, and racism- the reason for this request by Rep. Krause is because he is wanting to target materials that "might make students feel discomfort, guilt, anguish, or any other form of psychological distress because of their race or sex." The attempt is to possibly remove books from inside school libraries and classrooms if they center on these topics, due to the rising calls from politicians to include critical race theory in school curriculum.

This important article done by NPR cites the letter the Representative sent out to school superintendents: 

 

Although the next steps of his request are not explained, the huge ask of schools has many convinced of its apparent political nature. The letter, giving schools until November 12th to respond, asked "each official to confirm whether their schools possess any books on his list, along with a detailed accounting of where they are and how much money was spent on them."  

I am curious as to what the next steps of his plan may be concerning the collection of this information, as well as the response from other prominent politicians within and outside of his state of Texas.

    Hi Remy! I am really glad you posted about the Texas Book Ban that has sort of sparked a series of similar lists across the country. We have often discussed censorship in the media but book bans in public schools are another kind of censorship that can be detrimental to children growing up with wide world views. This was actually the first time I had actually seen the letter and the discriminatory language is bogged down by legal jargon that to anyone who isn't looking for it doesn't realize how stifling this list is. Really great post!

    It's ridiculous that the government tries to restrict what is available for children to read. That is none of the government's business, and should be handled by the children's parents or guardian. This move appears political in nature, but I am not surprised. Texas has a lot of problems as of late. To be honest, I'm worried about the direction that they are heading.

What is the focus?

 What is the focus of prominent politicians on Twitter in this week of September 5th?  With Labor Day Weekend, wildfires and recall election in California, Texas abortion laws, rapidly rising COVID cases, aftermath of Hurricane Ida, the crisis in Afghanistan, and the upcoming 20th year anniversary of 9/11 , where are we? There are so many pressing domestic and international problems going on, it makes it difficult to even log into Twitter. What is clear is the stark difference in coverage from both the left and right.  Seen on my Twitter page ( @EllisonRemy ), following prominent activists, journalists, and politicians on the left and right its easy to begin making general groupings of where focuses lie between the two parties. Double Standard? Just Jokes?

                                        On both his personal and Congressional Twitter accounts, Representative Paul Gosar is in hot water after posting a video which shows an anime-style clip featuring Gosar violently attacking Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and then President Biden. Blacklash for posting and also his happiness with the video surfaced just minutes after it was posted. Many retweets posting in response from other members of Congress and prominent politicians: Rep Ted Lieu (D. CA), Rep Adam Schiff (D.
